Thousands of Egyptians are violently protesting in Tahrir square in Cairo to demand the immediate end to military power over their government. Over 35 people are reported to have been killed during this weeks confrontations. Elections scheduled for later this month will decide members of a new parliment. The vote will be the first since similar uprisings during the Arab spring ousted long-time ruler Hosni Mubarak from office.
