Hosni Mubarak forces wielding whips and on horseback disrupt a front of anti-government protesters in Tahrir Square in Cairo, Egypt on January 3, 2011. Egypt erupted in mass protests on Jan. 25, 2011 with protesters demanding President Mubarak step down from power, chanting that they will not leave Tahrir Square until Mubarak leaves office. Mr. Mubarak has said he will not run for reelection but has refused to step down from power, and has sent his armed supporters to violently attack the crowds of protesters. Human rights organizations report that at least 150 people have been killed since the protests began.
